Most sovereigns are worth the gold in them. A few years and mints were struck in small numbers, though, and those deserve a closer look. The sovereign checker tells you which you have before you sell.
Pick the coin (double, full, half or quarter), then the year and the mint. The checker shows how many were struck, from the official mint records, a rarity rating read from that number, whether the coin is worth grading (having its condition assessed by a specialist), and the gold in it at today’s price. For modern doubles and quarters the Royal Mint publishes no count, only the limit on each proof issue, and the checker says so.
A common date is worth its gold.
There is 14.65g of pure gold in a double sovereign, 7.32g in a full, 3.66g in a half and 1.83g in a quarter. If the checker says a coin is worth a look, bring it in before you sell it for its gold. Our offer stands for 24 hours.

Questions
Which sovereigns do you buy?
Full, half, double and quarter sovereigns, any year and any mint.
Is my sovereign worth more than its gold?
Most are not, but one struck in small numbers can be. The checker’s rarity rating and grading line tell you whether it is worth a look.
How am I paid?
Accept an offer by 3pm (UK time) on a working day and we send the payment that day by instant bank transfer. Accept later, or on a Saturday, Sunday or bank holiday, and we send it the next working day.
Can I swap sovereigns for a bar?
Yes. An exchange takes coins as old gold, from 20g, into fine gold bars at a flat 8%, with no bar fee, except 1% more on a 5g bar and 3% more on a 2.5g bar.
